About the event
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will launch a new exhibition titled, Revolutionary Roots: Generations of Change. Connections between the American Revolution and the Mansion's residents will be examined through the 18th-century backgrounds of the Lockwood and Mathews families.
Research conducted for this exhibit has identified specific ancestors of both families, revealing “Untold Stories” of important figures who were deeply involved in the Revolutionary War. Some of the Lockwood and Mathews Ancestry that will be explored include Captain Eliphalet Lockwood of Norwalk who served in the Connecticut Militia and saw his own home burned by the British during the war; and Sampson Mathews, a member of the Committee of Safety.
